January 2013 empties and discards

I first saw empties posts on Beauty Reductionista, Beauty Obsessed, and Eye Heart It. I'm not doing any kind of project pan or low-buy (yet), but I love the idea of keeping track of what I'm using up. So, with a tip of the hat to those three brilliant ladies, here we go:

Body Shop cranberry body butter, empty argan oil dropper from Rexall, and Be Bath and Body pear body lotion. The Be line is (as far as I can tell) exclusive to Loblaws/Superstore, but it's an exclusive banner under the Upper Canada Soap umbrella. There are about 12 core scents plus they do seasonal ones as well. I bought a bunch of pump bottles along with some small travel-size bottles for the gym (one of which I am almost finished but which is at work in my gym bag. I'll finish it tomorrow.) I was pleasantly surprised by this line and will definitely buy more.

Ectoplasm scrub (see my body care post), almond scrub (awesome), and Biotherm serum sample thingy. The Biotherm sample smelled awful: like bleach and salt. Gross. The Befine almond scrub is lovely.

Modelco dual lipstick/gloss (from Glossybox, bad colour, bad texture, and I will never use it, so out it goes), OPI base coat, Fresh lip balm mini (Sephora birthday gift for 2012; fell on the floor of a bus earlier this month, but I never really liked it anyway), ancient Body Shop lipstick in Rose Treat (was in my "work stash" but is starting to get a little grody), and ineffective Revlon under-eye concealer.

Nail polish remover and giant bottle of Spectro-Jel.

And that's it! I have a ton of samples kicking around, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to use those more frequently in February.

  1. Good job, Sarah! :)

How was the argan oil? It's tempting to go for those drugstore brands rather than a $50 Josie Maran style type but drugstores don't offer refunds for used stuff so I tend not to bother.

    1. I liked it. I am using another drugstore brand now: Creation's Garden. I thought about buying the giant black label botte from Loblaws but I think that is more for salads rather than people.

    2. And, uh, because I neglected to really answer your question...the little bottle pictured above is (or was, at least), $8, which I felt was a decently cheap way to start using argan oil, but I do understand that being stuck with a bottle of something you can't return and that replaces something else you could have bought can be an issue.

    3. LOL @ salads! Thanks for answering. I think I'll just skip argan oils completely for now, lol.

  2. Nice work! You seem to be a pro at turfing old/crappy makeup already, which is great because sometimes people hang on to things forever for no good reason (I am not one of those people). A++ :D

    1. Thanks! I am quite ruthless. Also, I'm not on a no-buy and I have limited space, so if I don't like something it goes out to make more room.

  4. Way to go, ditching the old/uninspiring stuff! It's really quite a relief to get rid of things that are hanging around for no good reason.
